Fingal County Council (FCC) announced last week (16 March) the commencement of the formal planning process for the proposed Bremore Regional Park Development Project. (Link here). The plan includes amongst others a Sports Hub with great facilities such as basketball and tennis courts, football pitches and an eight-lane running track.
FCC undertook several public consultations and online focus groups on this project since 2019, with this draft being most likely the last consultation before implementation. It is highly recommended to submit any feedback and /or objections to this plan before the deadline of 30th April.
The North Fingal Pool Committee (NFPC) welcomes the inclusion of the sport facilities but regrets the loss of some amenities on the original Our Balbriggan plans such as the proposed improvement of the beach. This was a main focus in the public consultations, with the objective to attract a much-needed tourism to the area. In particular, the upgraded access to the beach, swim platform, tidal pool and all water-based facilities.
The Committee strongly believes there is a huge opportunity to encourage usage of and enhance the natural environment of the beach, and we urge everyone to submit their own feedback to this project. Balbriggan is already in the process of having an indoor swimming pool in the coming years because of the large support from Balbriggan people and surrounding areas (See article here). This is the time to have our say for this town, and take advantage of our beach. Submissions can be made online here and it takes just a couple of minutes to fill the application.
